750Northwest Airlines & Onward: Mr Nicholas Bredimus
posted on February 19th, 2010
Hailing from New Jersey, Nicholas Bredimus combined the worlds of hospitality, airlines, and software and forever changed all three areas of business. He has been in the thick of a plethora of projects, from the creation of software programs that automate resource and time intensive processes to improving aircraft safety and even designs for high-value homes.
With a look at Mr Nicholas Bredimus’ family history you can easily tell he was a lock to rise to the top. His family traces its ancestry as long ago as the days of Rome’s glory and can boast of a diverse background. His maternal line mingles Scottish and German stock. Luxembourg and England provided the source for his paternal line, though the family emigrated at the end of the nineteenth century.
Even after emigration to America, the family retained its drive and zeal to survive and thrive. Born part of a family of seven children, Nicholas was blessed with a father employed as a mechanical design engineer and a mother who earned her living as a nurse. Bredimus would dwell in Texas for quite some while as well as in Reston, VA, Kansas City, MO and Scottsdale, AZ.
He’s taken on prominent posts within firms across the air travel sector — the majority of them very distinguished names. Hughes Airwest, Trans World Airlines (TWA), Republic Airlines — these businesses would all at one time or another name him vp. Most notable, however, is his effort as an inspired software architect for the airlines. He is certainly most acclaimed for the aircraft maintenance computer program he invented on behalf of US Airways, which eventually became the industry standard. He turned his creativity next to making and recording reservations. For both room and flight bookings he pioneered programs to deal with the majority of the work that had been involved prior to automation. He went on to develop an industry specific system by the name of QuikTix, an electronic ticketing network.
While it is certainly his forte, Nicholas Bredimus also regularly worked on areas not connected to software. Mr Nicholas Bredimus managed American Express’ IT wing, initiated Bredimus Systems in the early nineties, and had the honor of being the founding president of American Airlines’ AMR Travel Services. Is he still active? Most certainly so — his intellect is in demand and at the ready in spite of his retirement. Look for his work now mastering building design — balancing the needs of comfort with the bleeding edge of technology and bona fide environmental interests. The passion we have described here just doesn’t stop anytime soon…
