It’s no wonder why UP Badminton Academy (UPBA) in Lucknow is popular. This can be evidenced by the performances of the shuttlers coming from this high-profile academy.
In the recently concluded Prakash Narain Memorial UP State Mini and Sub-Junior Badminton Championships held at Gorakhpur, six out of the eight titles were won by players from the Academy. The tournament took place from September 4 to 6.
This led to the positive development of sending nine players from the UP Badminton Academy for the upcoming Sub-Junior National Badminton Championships which will take place at Jaipur, Rajasthan from October 8 to 14. The players at this point are now preparing their badminton rackets and training hard for this prestigious competition where some of the world’s best players are discovered.
The titles won by Academy trainees won in last week’s competitions include Junior Boys Singles and Doubles, Sub-Junior Boys Singles and Doubles, and Sub-Junior Girls Singles and Doubles titles. The only titles not won by the team were the Junior Girls Singles and Doubles which were won by Meerut players.
The UPBA team was trained by Devendra Kaushal, Anil Dhyani and PK Bhandari who served as the head coach.
UPBA Secretary Vijai Sinha said he’s proud with the team’s accomplishments and is optimistic that these players will have lustrous careers when they leave the academy in the future. In order to nurture the talents of aspiring players, Sinha said they are planning to build more facilities within the Academy to accommodate more talented and promising players.
