512A Seaside Holiday in the Caymans

Did you know that there is a Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands? The Caribbean people seem to like the name a lot, as there is one in Jamaica too and it is considered one of the best Island in the Caribbean. The Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman is equally good, if not better. At least there are no hawkers here.
We were on vacation in the Cayman Islands and found ourselves in a plush seaside resort that offered a variety of water sports right at its doorstop on, you guessed it, Seven Mile Beach. We found the snorkeling pretty good and enjoyed eating alfresco at several of the restaurants along the beach.
We set out to find out if all the beaches in the Caymans were as good as the Seven Mile Beach. Cemetery Beach seemed to be a good site for snorkeling and we saw shoals of parrot fish there. We heard that Rum Point is one of the best beaches on Grand Cayman and drove down 25 miles to see it, a picnic basket and snorkeling gear in tow. It is a lovely, quiet beach with trees shading the soft sand and glassy waters that let you see the teeming fish.
We heard about the excellent diving in Cayman Brac and the rugged beauty of its coastline and took a trip to the island. On the southwest coast, just outside our resort, there was a small stretch of sand. It was not crowded and looked like one of those beaches that had survived the tourism hurricane rather well.
Little Cayman’s Point of Sand beach takes the trophy as one of the best beaches in the Caribbean, in my book. The coast off the secluded pink sand beach is very good for snorkeling too.
