505Dangers of Ace Queen

Ace queen is commonly considered a powerful online poker hand among most playersand yet it is also one of the hands that get more people into trouble when facing preflop aggression than any other. The problem with AQ is that it is temping to play at the casino, but against severe aggression early on, it can often be dominated to the point of slim odds. Against AK, for example, or AA KK or QQ, AQ is a big dog, and against tighter players, when facing aggression, you will often be up against that kind of range. So, then, what does AQ dominate? Weaker aces are the best it can want to be up against, but most disciplined poker online players won’t push very hard with a AJ or A-ten. It is almost a coin flip with smaller pairs like JJ 99 and etc., but even with these it is just slightly an underdog. AQ, then, it seems, isn’t worth a whole lot against big preflop action, and should be considered an easy hand to fold. Overcommitting with it is essentially asking to gamble with bad odds, under the assurance that you will very often not come out best on the other end, and it will be difficult to know where you’re at.
